people who get on my nerves
are those pretentious christians who give the rest of us a bad name.
in sunday school one day we were talking about something i forget what but one of the girls told this story about her freinds brother who’s trying really hard to quit smoking. he’s been trying hard for like a month and she said he’s been praying for help and everything.
so one day i guess he had a week moment and he was smoking, and as he was leaning on his car feeling like a failior because he can’t quit smoking, some guy came up to him dressed crisply in american eagle holey jeans and gave him this card with a bible verse on it. "here," he says, " i think you need this."
LITTLE DID HE KNOW when he gave that guy that card with (most likely) a useless in this situation bible verse and then walked away like he was better than that loser, was that this smoker was actually a really strong christian trying his hardest to quit.
christians like that just give the rest of us a bad name, people will start thinking all christians are like that. the sad thing is, a lot of christians are.
the perfect example is gay people. they thinkchristians think they’re disgusting and are going to hell. even though many christians DO feel that way, the truth is, even though gay people are sinning according to the bible, i sin according to the bible as well. everybody sins. gay people are sinners and so am i.
if we as christians think we’re better than anybody else because we’re christians and they’re not, we’re essentially saying that we’re more worthy of god’s love than they are and that’s just NOT TRUE.
i won’t say i’m exempt, just because i recognise this in other christians doesn’t mean i don’t recognise it in myself. what makes me mad are the ones who dont so much as realise it. they never consider the fact that maybe the way they’re acting might turn off any non-christians from christianity.
