McGuff the crime dog, her eggo is preggo.

i have a freind (co-worker is a better term, maybe acquantence) who told me recently that she thinks she might be  pregnant.  i was upset, since that’s kind of a big deal and all.  but not surprised- if you know what i mean.  anyway it got me thinking about juno.

i’ve read a lot about it, that it’s for abortion, that it’s against abortion, that it encourages teenage girls to get pregnant, that it discourages teenage girls to get pregnant, and even that its racist against the chinese.  what i’ve gotten from watching it as many times as i have, is that it portrays pregnancy as far easier then it really is (not that i would know, being a guy and all, but i would imagine) and i supose that’s how it may encourages teen pregnancy.

but what i’ve read on the imdb message boards that seems to annoy  people most about this movie, is not that it encourages teen pregnancy , but that the dialogue and charectures are too unrealistic to be believable.  now, i understand that films like this should reflect reality, but i don’t see why they have to be realistic.  personally, i have enough realism in my life.  i mean, if you can’t believe the dialogue and charectures in juno, then why are movies like "batman : the dark night" and "indiana jones and the crystal skull" acceptable?

the bottom line is, the dialogue and charectures ARE unrealistic- and so is the rest of the film.  juno is lucky that she has parents who didn’t get extremely mad, but the mojority of teenage girls probably don’t.  i know a girl who’s father didn’t speek to her the whole time she was pregnant.  now, that wouldn’t be funny and hence, is not in a comedy movie.  I don’t think Juno makes teenage girls want to get pregnant any more than rocky makes me want to become a boxer.  it’s fiction, not a documentary.  not to mention it was written by a stripper/ phone sex operator  (that’s one person who’s blog i prefer to stay away from).
